About the Council

Wellesbourne and Walton Parish Council includes the village of Wellesbourne and the hamlet of Walton. Wellesbourne itself was divided into two separate villages of Wellesbourne Mountford and Wellesbourne Hastings divided by the River Dene and joined together in 1947 to form the village of Wellesbourne. The village has grown significantly during recent years.

The Parish Council is responsible for the open spaces and play areas in Wellesbourne. It also owns the Mountford Sports Field as well as the open spaces on the Dovehouse estate. The council looks after the bus shelters, provides benches around the parish, is responsible for some grass cutting, manages the Christmas lights and supports the Street Fayre and Community days.

The council has recently taken on the lease of the village hall and land on the Newbold Road. Currently, we are working to open Dog Close in the centre of the village to the public. This area will be a place for recreation and peace for residents and includes the gifted land beyond the field itself. We intend planting a community orchard in that area.

The council opened a sports and community centre in the village in 2017 which is run on their behalf by a charitable trust, Wellesbourne Sports and Community Centre. Chedham’s Yard, an ancient wheelwright’s yard is also owned by the Council.

The aim of the Parish Council is to provide facilities and services of which the residents can be proud, and which meet their needs both now and in the future.

Chairman of the Council, Councillor Anne Prior.

Chedham's Yard

Chedham's Yard

Chedham’s Yard is a prize-winning heritage site. It has recently been restored and is normally open to the public every Saturday from April/May to September. The Yard will the re-open for the 2022 season on 16th April.

Hidden away in Wellesbourne in Warwickshire it is a well-kept secret – a blacksmith’s and wheelwright’s workshop dating from the early 19th century.

The Yard was run by five generations of the Chedham family, the last of whom, Bill Chedham passed away in 2012 shortly after the Yard opened to the public. The Yard is crammed with tools, equipment and items made at or maintained on site along with the materials to make them.

The Yard has been restored with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and BBC Restoration after it beat churches, chapels and a gallery to win the BBC Restoration Village television programme in 2006.
